What is Front Controller?

Front Controller is a design pattern in PHP Zend Framework, which allows the user to use a single component in the application to handle the request in another part of the application. It helps the user in centralizing the functionalities required by the entire application. It is a highly beneficial function in Web development as in a situation where a certain behaviour of the function needs to change, only a little modification is required in the application to achieve it. Routing, templating and security is some of the finest examples of front controller functionality.

What is Front Controller in Zend Framework?

Front controller in Zend Framework is used in model view controller architecture in order to initialize the request environment, routing the incoming request and then dispatching actions. It sums up any responses and returns them when the process is complete. It is also used for implementing singleton pattern, which means it can only be available once at a given time, allowing it to act as a registry for other objects in the dispatch process. Front controller in send also registers a plugin broker which allows it to observe various events using plugins. This helps the programmer to tie up the dispatch process to the site without extending the front controller to add functionality.

What is Bootstrapping?

Bootstrapping is the process of loading an environment for a program that needs to operate. In the case of PHP development, it refers to collecting all the web requests through a single script which will perform the bootstrapping process also known as the front controller. It helps in resolving security concerns and understanding loaded scripts in order to set up the environment for new scripts. Bootstrapping helps in Routing in PHP for maintaining security and processing request by front controller. It is also used to preparing early programming environments incrementally to develop more complex and user-friendly programming environments.
